About this tool
The MRZ Scanner uses on-device OCR with an MRZ-tuned Tesseract model to read the Machine Readable Zone from a photo or scan of a passport, ID card, residence permit or visa. Images are auto-rotated, contrast-normalized and cropped to the MRZ area before recognition. The extracted MRZ is then parsed and validated against ICAO Doc 9303 — including every field-level and composite check digit.
For best results, use a sharp, straight-on image with good lighting where the two or three MRZ lines at the bottom of the document are fully visible and not cropped.
Everything runs locally in your browser. Your document image never leaves your device.
